Pittsfield Middle High School has shifted to a student-centered learning model, where students are taught rigorous mastery of academic subjects, but on their own terms in ways that they learn best. According to the district’s superintendent John Freeman, students emerge from this environment “ready to be adults in every sense of the word,” having not only mastered academic concepts, but having the opportunity to take charge of their futures and their education, and leaving with a sense of empowerment and leadership.
