Ed Savings Accounts are a better choice | Union Leader

The Union Leader Editorial Board supported SB 193 in a recent editorial:

Education is not a one-size-fits-all product. The classroom in which one student excels may not be the fit place for another to learn.

It is past time to radically rethink how we deliver education in New Hampshire. Let’s focus on helping each student find the right opportunity to learn, rather than force every kid through the same assembly line.

Senate Bill 193, which passed the Senate along party lines in March, is now in the hands of the House Education Committee, which will make a recommendation to the full House in November. The bill would establish Education Freedom Savings Accounts, which would give parents the ability to choose how to use the state’s education funding aid dedicated to their child.

The tax-free accounts would let parents use state funds for private schools, charter schools, or local public schools in another district. It would turn students into customers, and let schools compete for their business. The House should send SB 193 to Gov. Chris Sununu for his signature.
