Cline to replace Raffio | Union Leader

The Union Leader Editorial Board featured this piece on their former editor’s appointment to the State Board of Education:

…Democrats ginned up false outrage over the news that Sununu has chosen not to re-appoint Tom Raffio to the state Board of Education. Raffio has been on the board for 10 years and is currently the chair. He has been just fine.

If you think New Hampshire schools are just fine, and should be just fine for the next four years, keeping Raffio around makes sense.

But Sununu obviously is looking for more than just fine. He has tapped conservative consultant Drew Cline to fill Raffio’s seat.

We, of course, are partial to Cline, who spent 14 years editing our editorial pages. He earned a reputation as an intelligent, insightful, and independent writer. If confirmed by the Executive Council, Cline would bring new energy and new ideas to the state Board of Education.

Democrats denounced Sununu’s decision, as if the governor were under some obligation to keep holdovers from the Lynch and Hassan administrations.

Raffio represents the status quo in education, Cline represents reform. Sununu has made his choice.
