Reflection and accountability at center of student-led conferences in Pittsfield

Student-led conferences are one of the tools that Pittsfield Middle-High School uses to encourage students to take ownership of their learning. It’s a time for students to reflect on their short- and long-term goals and how they’re progressing in their coursework with their parents and adviser, and so far, they’ve been a great success. In the video below, John Freeman, Superintendent of Schools, says that it teaches students valuable skills:

“What’s known as 21st century skills include a broad range of skills not taught in a traditional school curriculum: collaboration, long term planning, self-reflection, communication skills, facilitation, are important skills for our students to have, whether they’re going into the workforce or going to college.” John Freeman, Superintendent of Schools.”
